The Charter Support Unit has an online course availalbe to leaders who are working to open new charter schools. The trainings focus on key concepts that leaders should be thinking about in the months before a charter school opens. In addition, we are hosting monthly virtual meetings for participants to get together and talk about the various issues you may be facing in opening your school. New Applicant Training Coming Soon
|
|
|
|
We are working with the Florida Department of Education to complete an online course to meet the requirements of Florida Statute 1002.33(6)(f). This New Applicant Training will be posted online at moodle.charter.support, and must be completed by the school's principal and the chief financial officer or his or her equivalent. Our target is to have the training online early in May, 2021.

In this session, we will introduce Positive Discipline in the Classroom as an alternative to discipline systems that depend on rewards and consequences, extrinsic motivation. Developed by Dr. Jane Nelsen and Lynn Lott, Positive Discipline in the Classroom teaches an internal locust of control (doing the right thing even when no one is looking). It is designed to teach young people to become responsible, respectful, and resourceful members of their communities, by teaching important social and life skills in a manner that is deeply respectful and encouraging for both children and adults (www.positivediscipline.com). This session will include a brief introduction to philosophy and implementation and will include several interactive activities.

The CSU is a free support network operated by Building Hope in partnership with the United States Department of Education through a federal dissemination grant, a Walton Foundation grant, and the Florida Department of Education through a state appropriation. Our primary mission is to serve all charter schools in their first five years of operation. The CSU also provides many free services to more established charter schools across the country, including our free professional webinar series.
